DECADeANCE support raises £11,200 for hospice

Another incredible fundraising cheque totalling £11,200 has been presented to Earl Mountbatten Hospice, thanks to the extraordinary efforts of DECADeANCE organiser Tony Martin.

Since 2009, longtime hospice supporter Tony has been putting on the decadent events, featuring music and visuals from every decade from the 60s to present day. He said: “DECADeANCE was an idea to celebrate my 30 years in the DJ business and I wanted to stage a very big party. Everyone had such a good time and said ‘you’ve got to do it again!’ - so here we are now nine years later, selling out every year. For party goers who cannot wait a whole year, a spin off smaller scale event RETROreSPECT is proving very popular too!”

In total, Tony has raised an amazing £44,000 for the hospice over the years and planning is underway for the ninth event this November. Following that, Tony will be celebrating a decade of DECADeANCEs in 2018.

Tony also explained that he has a personal reason for supporting the hospice: “I lost my mum in 2001 and she received excellent care from the hospice. Last year, we also lost other friends and family there, and again the care and support was outstanding. It is so important for Islanders to get behind it and keep supporting it, because at some point it is going to touch everyone’s lives in one way or another.”

Thanking Tony for his ongoing support, Chief Executive Nigel Hartley, said: “We are incredibly grateful for Tony’s efforts, which raise so much money in support of our work. He has raised a significant sum for the hospice over the past nine years and this contribution will have provided a big boost to the amount we must raise every year, to ensure our services are available to patients and their families across the Island. Thank you to Tony and to all his supporters!”
